Dear Sir

Subject: Acute Water Shortage

Kindly allow me to use some space in your esteemed daily to express my views and concern on the problem of extreme water scarcity in our locality.
It’s not communal riots, traffic jams or soaring crime graph that pose the gravest threat to the Delhiites; it’s a water famine that is raring to happen. We the residents of Dariyaganj are facing acute water shortage which is affecting our lives to a great extent. In the cities, people continue to waste precious drinking water in washing cars, bathing animals as well as in making buildings and maintaining gardens. This is absurd and criminal. The Delhi Jal Board also fails to repair or replace leaking water pipes on time.
The need of the hour is to stop the wastage of water and start water harvesting and conservation and even recycling. The government NGO and the public must join hands to prevent Delhi from dying of thirst otherwise we will have ‘not a drop to drink’.
I hope the concerned authorities and the general public will see the gravity of the matter and some measures will be adapted to regulate the water supply in our locality at the earliest.

Subject: Evoking Awareness Towards Solar Energy
Sir Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to make the people aware of the growing need and demands of solar power. We all know that our earth is showing signs of a patient in declining health and it is due to excessive pollution on our planet. Man has a desire to live a luxurious life and for that, he is over consuming electricity. He doesn’t realize that overuse would exhaust the treasure. We must conserve electricity which is the need of the hour.
But this conservation can only be done if we start using solar power systems. Various kinds of solar systems like solar cookers, solar lanterns, solar heating and cooking system, solar water heater, etc., are available in the market.
These solar systems are non-polluting. They are economical and are available in different sizes. So, I request you to publish this letter in your newspaper to make people aware of the need of conserving electricity and limiting electricity bills. Public must pay attention to the dire need of switching over to solar energy.
Thanking you.

Subject: Changing Trend in Children’s Activities
Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the general public towards the changing trend in the recreational activities of children of modem tunes. It is shocking to know that present day children don’t want to spend their leisure hours on book-reading, sports and games or any other outdoor activity as was done in the years from 1960-1980. Rather modem day juveniles are more interested in indoor activities. Only 10% of them are interested in book reading whereas 60% can be seen busy with gadgets. This is not a positive trend. It is leading our children towards poor health and stamina. In my opinion, children should be made to understand the importance of reading books and this can be done at school level as well as by parental interference. The advantages of outdoor games must be stressed upon. They must realise that outdoor games impart them the value of discipline as well as team spirit Parents should not provide them electronic gadgets at an early stage.
Hope this letter of mine will spread awareness among children as well as parents and recreational activities of children will again get channelized in a positive way.
Thanking you.

Sir,
Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to draw immediate attention of concerned authorities towards the traffic menace on the road in front of New Agra Public School, Ram Nagar. The road is always congested and traffic jams are common here. The major concern arises due to the movement of heavy vehicles on the road. There are no speed breakers or zebra crossings on the road, which makes it tough for the people, especially school students to cross the road. Thus, this road is accident prone. I, a student of class X, New Agra Public School, on behalf of the students and school authorities, request you to make provision of creating zebra crossing on the road so that crossing the road would not be a life threatening task for the children and other people.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I wish to put forward my views regarding value systems, since values are being absent in modern society. This would be possible if importance is given in the education system. There is no stress in the educational institutions to uplift the students morally. Ethical values have gone with the wind in the modern, complex and fast competitive era. We should realize the real aim of education, which is not confined to mere cramming of literary pieces or facts of science.

Subject : Littered Roads : A Health Hazard
Sir
Owing to the MCD employees’ strike, the roads in our area are littering with garbage. If garbage heaps around in a residential area, they not only present an unpleasant sight but also pose a great health hazard. This is precisely the problem in this part of the capital which I seek to bring to the notice of the concerned authorities through the
columns of your reputed newspaper.
Since Rajendra Nagar is a relatively new locality, there are numerous vacant plots, that are being invariably and insensitively used by the public to dump their garbage. The stench in the air is unbearable, not to mention the peril of an outbreak of infectious diseases.
Attempts to counsel the people on the importance of community hygiene are being counter-argued, i.e., that in the absence of proper dumping sites or dustbins, vacant spots are their only option.
It is important that both the public as well as the authorities should take up a collective responsibility to maintain a clean environment and contribute towards the common good.
I hope this letter of mine will awaken the concerned authorities, who, in turn, will take necessary action at the earliest to protect the residents from any epidemic.
Thanking you.

Subject : Increasing Cases of Theft
Sir
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the alarming situation in our area. Number of thefts and burglaries are increasing in the locality because the absence of law and order here has become an added advantage to the unsocial elements.
It has become very difficult to go out even after locking the house. Thieves sense it immediately and a little absence cost a lot to the owner. And the most dangerous situation is that they make damage not only to the property but also to life. If these unsocial beings find anyone tracing them, they don’t hesitate to attack them. All that has made the condition very miserable. Old people are the soft target for the burglars.
Repetitive complaints have been lodged to the local law and order authorities but there is no positive change in the situation. Rather the indifferent attitude of the police has encouraged the anti-social elements.
Through this letter of mine, I, on the behalf of the residents of our locality, request the higher authorities to take necessary action at the earliest so that we can lead a safe life.

There is also a need to introspect and identify objectively whether this is a natural calamity or a man-made disaster. Precisely, it was knee-jerk reaction of mother earth against indiscriminate constructions in such a vulnerable area disregarding all warnings ! What is important here is to learn from our mistakes.
My appeal is that help in any form–food, medicines or money, should not only be forthcoming, but also well organised, so as to benefit the maximum number of people.

In July 2012, we got 150 students admitted in Government and public schools under the provisions of RTEA-2009.
My experience with the NGO has been an overwhelming one, yet an eye-opening one too. A lot still needs to be done if we want our country to develop and progress. One possible solution to this situation is to make it compulsory for ‘Each One to Teach One.’ Along with this, if the schools are compelled to turn to afternoon classes and provide education to the people of lower strata at subsidized fees, the problem would be solved to a great extent. I hope to seek the cooperation of every enlightened citizen in this regard.

Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I want to express my deep concern regarding the children participating in the so-called ‘Reality Shows’. Even if you have to exploit young children for making money, it seems that it does not matter, as recently there has been a mushrooming of ‘Reality Shows’ featuring children of tender years.
The lure for money tempts the parents to send their children to such shows. The parents should be counselled that their overriding ambition is burdening their children with responsibilities and pressure. Along with neglect of studies, they lose their innocence. The poor children have to undergo a lot of inconvenience and suffering during such shows. The long shooting hours and the dazzle of lights overstrain them.
I strongly feel that the participation of children in such shows should be completely banned. Children should be allowed to lead their normal lives and enjoy their childhood. Kindly publish this letter of mine in your newspaper so that people may become aware of it.
