It was the festival of spring. A colourfully-dressed crowd of men, women and children were all going to the village fair. Some walked, some rode on horses, others went in bullock-carts. One little boy ran, very fast with life and laughter, “Come, child, come,” called his parents. He hurried towards his parents, and his eyes on the toys. “I want that toy,” he begged.

His father looked at him angrily while his mother was quiet, and said : “Look, child, what is before you.” The child could see many footpaths full of people. He felt afraid at the corner of entrance there was a sweet-seller, calling out: “Gulabjamun, rasgulla, burfi, jalebi”. The child stared and his mouth watered for the burfi that was his favourite sweet. “I want that burfi,” but he knew his parents would say no then he moved on.

A man stood holding a pole with yellow, red, green and purple balloons flying from it. So he wanted to have them all. But he knew that his parents would say no. so he walked on.

Men, women and children were laughing a shouting madly as they went round and round in the swing the child watched them. This time the child made request: “I want to have a ride, please, Father, Mother!”

There was no reply. He turned to look for his parents. They were not there. He looked behind. There was no sign of them. So he started crying. Tears rolled down from his eyes, a man heard his cry and tried to help him

There were once two tailor birds called Tuntuna and Tuntuni. They passed their days flying from the jack-fruit tree to the guava tree and then to the licheetree, or they hopped from the brinjal plant to the chilli plant. And all the time they sang,’ Ffrut, ffrut, ffrutffrut.”

One day Tuntuna said to his wife, “My dear Tuntuni, I wish I had some money. I should like to buy a pretty new dress for you and a new suit for myself.

“Tuntuna,”said little Tuntuni, “I have heard that in the jungle there are some pots of gold coins.

“I have heard that too, Tuntuni. I shall go and search in the jungle. I am sure I can find a pot of gold coins.”

“I shall stay here and look after our nest, ” said Tuntuni. “Please come back quickly. I shall be very lonely.”

So Tuntuna flew away. He searched all through the Jungle.

After many days of searching he found a small coin, under a bush. He took it in his beak and carried it home to Tuntuni.

“Come quickly, Tuntuni, and see what I have found,” he called.

“What has happened?” Asked Tuntuni. “Please tell me.”

But Tuntuna said, “I am very tired. Please rub my feet, and afterwards I shall tell you what has happened.”

Tuntuna waited for a moment, and then he said, “Tuntuni, we have become rich.”
