Summary: If Mice Could Roar is a simple poem by Ruskin Bond that transports the reader to a world of imagination. Bond imagines how the world would if mice could roar like lions and elephants could soar. It would definitely be a sight if trees grew in the sky instead of land. He also visualizes the scene of tigers dining on biscuits and wine, as well as fat people flying high. The world would be quite different if pebbles sang and tortoise ran. If only all that was lost could be won once again and bullies be subdues, nothing would be the same again. If guns grew flowers instead of firing bullets and songs brought showers, everything would appear changed. The poet concludes by saying that if at all most all of these changes occurred, it would only make the world a better place.
(Poem)
If mice could roar,
And the elephants soar,
And trees grow up in the sky;
If tigers could dine,
On biscuits and wine,
And the fattest of folk could fly!
If pebbles could sing,
And bells never ring,
And the teachers were lost in the post;
If tortoise could run,
And losses be won,
And bullies be buttered on toast;
If a song brought a shower,
And a gun grew a flower,
This world would be better than most.
