Ans: The British believed that by preserving official documents, it would be easier for them or any other persons to know about the decisions taken in the past. there copies may be prepared and used in present time if needed so.

Ans: We try and divide history in different parts because it in an attempt to capture the characteristics of a time, its central features as they appear to us. So the terms through which we periodise i.e., demarcate the difference between periods become important. They reflect our ideas about the past; also they show how we see the significance of the change from one period to the next.

Ans: Importance of the history is that history helps us develop a better understanding of the world.
