Ans. Resources like forests, rivers, minerals, solar energy, seas etc. are natural resources. These resources are provided to man by the nature.

Q 3. Define ‘Soil’.
Ans. Soil is the small and uppermost layer of the earth. It is formed by breaking of parent rock and decomposition of plants and animals.
Q 4. What do we get from the sea?
Ans. We get fish, pearls, shells, diamonds etc. from the seas. We also get petroleum substances from sea coasts at some places.
Q 5. How can you conserve the resources properly?
Ans. 1. Resources should not be wasted.
2. The resources which can be used again, should be recycled.
3. People should be made aware regarding the conservation of resources.

Q 6. Differentiate between biotic and abiotic resources.
Ans. Biotic resources are those basic resources which originate from living things. Plants and other living creatures, coal, petroleum etc. are biotic resources.
The non-living products like minerals, water etc. are abiotic resources.
Q 7. Write a short note on the importance of land and soil sources.
Ans. Soil and land resources are being used for the purpose of agriculture, industry, sports, tourism, transport etc. Without these resources, the life of human beings is almost impossible.
Q 8. From where do we get the minerals and where are they used?
Ans. Minerals are taken out from the Earth. These are taken out from different types of rocks. These are used in our industries. Therefore, the minerals are called the bases for our industries.
Q 9. Explain the developed and potential resources with examples.
Ans. The resources which are used for some economic gains, are called developed resources. Whereas the resources which are available but not being used, are called potential resources. The coal lying underneath the earth is a potential resource, whereas the coal which is being used is a developed resource.
Q 10. Why should we use the exhaustible resources wisely and with hesitation?
Ans. The stocks of exhaustible resources are limited. About 80% of the fossil fuels will be finished in one century. So we should use these resources wisely and with hesitation to use these for a long time.

Ans: Resource conservation means the reduction in the use of water, energy, and raw materials. It is the management of the human use of natural resources to provide the maximum benefit to current generations while maintaining capacity to meet the needs of future generations.

Ans: We conserve resources because it is important to conserve resources as many resources are scarce and take millions of years to develop. Over exploitation of the resources may exhaust them. Thus, we need to conserve resources. To use the resources carefully and to give time to renew them is known as conservation of resources.
