Once upon a time there lived a dragon. He was the smallest, saddest dragon, ever sad because he was small. No one knew why he was so small. One day he decided to run away. He went to the hills and found a cave. He lived there, eating food he could find, drinking fresh water and trying to forget his friends, the village children. Days passed and the dragon couldn’t forget his village and his friends. One day he heard a sound and saw his friends – the village children. ‘Welcome!’ the dragon cried but suddenly he could see nothing. There were billowing clouds of smoke everywhere and he could hear screams. The dragon rushed out. There were more screams when his friends saw him. ‘What happened? ’ he demanded. ‘You!’ they gasped, ‘You are not our dragon!’ ‘I am!’ he insisted. ‘But you are so big!’ The dragon saw a glistening green head with immense nostrils and a wide mouth.
