FOR QUESTIONS 31 TO 35, READ THE PASSAGE AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.
Daniel and Yvonne were twins. As they were boy and girl they were not identical, but they did look very similar. They both had dark hair, dark eyes and little dimples in their cheeks. When they were very small, you could not tell them apart. However, as they grew older, Yvonne’s fringe grew lighter in colour and it was easier to tell them apart. If you knew them well, you would know that Daniel had a small mole, just below his eye, and Yvonne did not. This was a good way to distinguish between them if they were both wearing hats!
Not only did they look similar, but they also liked similar things. They continued developing in this way as they grew up. When they went to school, they both loved playing cricket and they were both quite good at it too. Many of their friends thought Yvonne was definitely a better bowler than her brother, but they would never tell them this as the twins always had a strong on-field rivalry. If they had told Yvonne that she was better, she would have boasted. If they had told Daniel that Yvonne was better, he would have tried to catch her out and force her to make mistakes. As it was, they never told them this, as a harmonious game was always more enjoyable for them all.
Generally, Daniel and Yvonne would always be on the same team. However, one day, Daniel and Yvonne were put on separate teams and had to compete against each other. Their friends worried that the two might fall out when one sibling’s team inevitably beat the others. However, while they played they completely ignored each other’s existence. The problem was that both played really strangely. It appeared that if they were not on the same team, they could not play to the best of their abilities. This is something that caused issues as they grew older, and they wanted to be considered for the school cricket teams. At school there was a boys’ team, and a girls’ team, but no mixed team. When they were not in the same team, Daniel and Yvonne could not play well enough and neither of them even made it through the try-outs for the school teams.

FOR QUESTIONS 36 TO 40, READ THE PASSAGE AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.
The sight of my, nearing 75-year-old grandmother, on a mule, was quite amusing. The look of joy on her face came as quite a surprise. She sat on an old leather saddle, decorated with the image of a lion. By her side while an aged man with a wide brimmed hat controlled the mule with a tether. She was about to embark on an epic adventure.
At a height of almost 4000m, the castle is one of the highest in the world. It looks over many small rural villages and predates all of them. As an ancient monument steeped in history, it was a must see for my grandmother, cousin and I, on our trip of a lifetime. We set off in search of it together, with three mule tamers and our guide.
The journey started off on flat land but this swiftly steepened. Not being happiest on a horse, or a mule, for that matter, there were bits of the journey I did not enjoy. But this was offset by the gaping landscape that appeared ever more Martian with each meter of ascent. It was quite awe inspiring. At a plateau, our guide pointed to a deserted settlement just below us and told us that it had been an ancient bath house. Thousands of years ago the area had been far more populated and very affluent.
When we arrived at the castle, it was busy but there was not a tourist to be seen. Instead, there were many people dressed in mediaeval clothing and they seemed to be practising ancient crafts. There were some men play-fighting with wooden swords, others stood in a circle, trying their hand at training falcons that flew from one person’s arm to another’s There was also a large group of women and children sitting around a camp fire chatting excitedly.
We decided to use this unique opportunity as a photographic expedition. We pretended that we were explorers from the future and had been transported back in time to document the past. It was not that hard to pretend as the people were doing a good job of acting out their ancient roles. At one point, I did wonder if we had in fact been transported back in time.
