Long Answer Type Questions
Question. Write a detailed note on working of Internet.
Answer. The computers on the Internet are connected to each other through small networks. These networks are connected through the gateways to the Internet backbone. All computers on the Internet, communicate with one another using TCP/IP, which is a basic protocol of the Internet.
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) manages the transmission of data/file/document on the Internet by breaking the data/file/document into small pieces or parts called packets or datagrams. Each packet contains actual data and address part, i.e. addresses of destination and source upto 1500 characters. Functioning of TCP and IP are as follows
TCP It breaks message into smaller packets that are transmitted over the Internet and also reassembles these smaller packets into the original message that are received from the Internet.
IP It handles the address part of each packet, so that the data is sent to the correct address. Each gateway on the network check this address to see where to forward the message.
Based on the paragraph, answer the questions that follow.
WWW was introduced on 13th March, 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee. It is a system of Internet servers that supports hypertext and multimedia to access several Internet protocols on a single interface. It is often abbreviated as the web or WWW or W3. It is a way of exchanging information between computers on the Internet, trying to tie them together into a vast collection of interactive multimedia resources. It is only a portion of what makes up the Internet, but it is the fastest growing part of the Internet.
The web lets people, organisations and companies publish information for other people to see. This makes the web a very useful tool for finding information about any topic.
Question. What is WWW?
Answer. WWW (World Wide Web) is a system of Internet servers that supports hypertext and multimedia to access several, internet protocols on a single interface.
Question. What can a user do with WWW?
Answer. Using WWW, a user can download files, listen to music, view video files and jump to other documents or websites by using hypertext links.
Question. Define the attributes that are provided by WWW.
Answer. WWW provides various attributes, which are as follows
(a) User-friendly The WWW resource works smoothly with most web browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.
(b) Multimedia documents WWW allows users to create and display web pages that contains various graphics, audio, video, animation and text.
(c) Interactive WWW provides interactivity using hyperlinks and input boxes (i.e. textboxes and checkboxes).
Question. Read the following paragraph.
Find six network and communication related abbreviations and give their expanded form alongwith a single-line definition of each of them.
The RBI is planning to expand its connectivity with all major banks of India. The plan includes providing TCP connectivity through HTTP for easy access points and seeks help from some ISPs to join hands in this venture.
Also, there is a plan to set-up IIS and SMTP servers. Some banks will go for ADSL line while others will use leased line connectivity to access these services.
The RBI is also taking help of IIT professors in this venture.
Answer. Six network and communication related abbreviations are as follows
(i) TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) A protocol developed for the Internet to get information from one network device to another.
(ii) HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) A protocol that transmits hypertext over networks. This is the protocol of the web.
(iii) ISP (Internet Service Provider) An organisation that provides access to the Internet through various connectivity methods.
(iv) IIS (Internet Information Server) It is a Microsoft proprietary web server software.
(v) SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) It distributes E-mail messages and attached files to one or more electronic mail boxes.
(vi) ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) A data communication technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voice band modem can provide.
Short Answer
Question. How can we create multiline strings in Python?
Answer. Multiline strings can be created in two ways:
1. By adding a backslash at the end of normal single quote or double quote strings, for e.g.: Text = “Welcome \ To \ Python”
2. By typing the text in triple quotation marks, no backslash needed at the end of line for e.g.” Str1= “”” Welcome to Python”””
Question. What do you mean by immutable?
Answer. Immutable means unchangeable. In Python immutable types are those whose values cannot be changed in place. Whenever one assigns a new value to a variable referring to immutable type, variable’s reference is changed and the previous value is left unchanged for example: x=3, x=5 value 3 is untouched and x is made to refer to new value.
Question. What is the significance of the pass statement in the Python?
Answer. A pass statement is useful in those instances where the syntax of the language requires the presence of a statement but where the logic of the program does not. The pass statement of Python is a do-nothing statement i.e. empty statement or null operation statement.
Question. How sequence is different from selection?
Answer. The sequence construct means the statements are being executed sequentially; it refers to the normal flow of control in a program where as the selection construct means the execution of statements depending upon a condition test. It is also known as decision construct.
Question. What is if statements of Python?
Answer. The if statements are the conditional statements in Python and these implement selection constructs. An if statements tests a particular condition, if the condition evaluates to true, a course of action is followed that means that the set of the statements is executed. Otherwise if the condition evaluates to false the action is ignored.
Long Answer
Question. Explain the types of statements in Python?
Answer. Statement forms the smallest executable unit within a Python program. Python statements can belong to one of the following three types:
1. Pass statement: The pass statement of Python is a do statement i.e., empty statement or null operation statement. Whenever Python encounters a pass statement, Python does nothing and moves to next statement in the flow of control.
2. Simple statement: Any single executable statement is a simple statement in Python. It is one which has only one subject and one predicate. Several simple statements may occur on a single line separated by commas, for e.g. name = input (“your name”) or print (name).
3. Compound statement: A compound statement represents a group of statements executed as a unit. A compound statement in Python has a header ending with a colon (:) and a body containing a sequence of statements at the same level of indentation. The compound statements of Python are written in a specific pattern, for e.g., <compound statement header>: <indented body containing multiple and/or compound statements>.
Question. Explain floating point numbers in Python?
Answer. A number having fractional part is a floating-point number. The decimal point signals that it is a floating-point number, not an integer. The number 12 is an integer but 12.0 is a floating-point number. Fractional numbers can be written in two forms: fractional form and exponent form. Floating point variables represent real numbers, which are used for measurable quantities like distances, area, temperature etc and typically have a fractional part. In Python, floating point numbers represent machine level double precision floating point numbers. The range of these numbers is limited by underlying machine architecture subject to available (virtual) memory. The floating-point numbers have precision of 15 digits (double- precision). Floating point numbers have two advantages over integers:
1. They can be representing values between the integers.
2. They can represent a much greater range of values.
Question. Explain Iteration (looping) in Python?
Answer. The iteration constructs mean repetition of a set of statements depending upon a condition test. The time a condition is a true or false depending upon the loop, a set of
statements is repeated again and again. As soon as the condition becomes a false the repetition stops. The iteration construct is also called looping construct. Every programming language must support these three types of constructs as the sequential program execution is inadequate to the problems. Python also provides statements that support these statements- if that supports selection and for and while that support iteration. Using these statements, we can create programs as per the need. The set of statements that are repeated again and again is called the body of the loop. The condition on which the execution or exit of the loop depends is called the exit condition or test condition.
Question. Explain standard library module and its working with math module of Python?
Answer. A Python module is a file which contains some variables and constants, some functions, objects etc. defined in it, which can be used in other Python programs by importing it. To use a module, we need to first import the module in a program and then we can use the module functions, variables, constants and other objects in the program file. Python makes available many more functions through modules in its standard library. Python’s standard library is a collection of many modules for different functionalities. Python’s standard library provides a module namely math for math related functions that work with all number types except for complex numbers, working with functions of math module, we need to first import it to the program by giving statement. The math library’s functions as math. <function name>.
Question. Explain if-else statement of Python?Answer.
Answer. The if statements test a condition and if the condition evaluates to true, it carries out the statements indented as if and in case condition evaluates to false it carries out statements indented as else. An if-else in comparison to two successive if statements has less number of condition- checks i.e., with if-else condition will be tested once in contrast to two comparisons if the same code is implemented with two successive ifs. The syntax of the if-else statement is :
If < conditional expression>
Statement
[ statements]
Else:
Statement
[statements]
