Sophie romantically fantasises about meeting Danny Casey and lies about it to her favourite brother and best friend. To her, all of this is real. Once again, she imagines Danny coming to meet her at the canal, she imagines her excitement on seeing him. She becomes sad and feels let down when Danny Casey does not ‘show up’ to give his autograph ‘as promised’.
