That very year he became a  pastor  andpreached his first sermon  inthe Baptist Church  of  Atlanta. Asa  young  man  he  wasgreatly impressed by  Mahatma  Gandhi'ssuccess  in  the political field and  'the  power of ahimsa'.  King decided  tofollow  thepath of non-violence  andget  millions of  Blacks  their due.  Hefelt  that  theblacks  have  immensely contributed  towards the building of America ,and there was no reason whythey should not be treated  ·with respect.
