SOME COOL, GREEN HOLIDAY IDEAS

Your vacation is around the corner! How about celebrating it differently this time around? Try these cool group activities with friends and help make your neighbourhood greener.
Free trees anyone : It is a very easy activity to do in groups or alone. All you have to do is pick up a few young saplings and plant them in your neighbourhood.
Begin with your own house and then walk over to other neighbourhood houses.
Plant a sapling each in all of them. Of course, with their owners’ permission!
Have a green celebration : If a birthday or anniversary falls during these holidays, celebrate it in a green way! Say no to plastic and paper cups, plates and tumblers.
Instead of giving or receiving expensive toys and clothes etc. as gifts, give and accept gifts of trees!
No mess, please : Form small groups of 4 to 6 and clean the stretch of road near your house. Collect non-biodegradable garbage in reusable bags and dispose it in the right place. Call the municipality garbage pick-up service, to clear the garbage dump in your area. Also, put together make-shift dustbins and leave them for people to use.
Watch them : Locate a water body in your area. Spend some time there watching birds that come there. Play ‘Spot and Tell a Bird’ game with your friends. The player, who correctly identifies the bird with fewer clues wins. Next, find out more information on Wikipedia about the birds you spot.
Green surprise : Gift a green patch to your mother! Pool some money to buy and share vegetables, herbs, fruits and flower seeds with friends. Use them to create your own herb garden in your apartment/house balcony. Happy gardening! Happy holidays!
Let the world know : Once you have done all this, don’t just sit idle and draw satisfaction from the fact you have done your bit for the environment. How about spreading the message of ‘Greener World, Cleaner World’ in your neighbourhood. Your could consider carrying out a Green March, write articles for local newspapers on the importance of green and clean surroundings. Meet an environment scientist, who can tell a lot more about what children like you can do to make the Earth a cleaner, greener and healthier planet to live.
