CBSE Class 9 Social Science - Sample Paper Blueprint & Marking Schemes Review section-wise weightage, model papers, History-Geography-Civics-Economics problems, and step-wise mark allocations for the 2026-27 session. 📋 CBSE Class 9 Social Science Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution (2026-27):
• Total Marks: 100 (Theory: 80 + Internal Assessment: 20).
• New Prescribed Textbook: For 2026-27, NCERT has replaced the earlier four separate books with a single integrated textbook, Understanding Society: India and Beyond — Part 1 (9 chapters: 1 foundational Social Science chapter, plus 2 each of Geography, History, Political Science, and Economics). Part 2 has not yet been released. • Equal Weightage (based on the prior four-discipline structure, which this integrated book continues broadly): History, Geography, Political Science, and Economics each carry roughly 20 of the 80 theory marks. • Map Work: Typically 5 marks total — split between History and Geography. • Internal Assessment (20 marks): Periodic tests, portfolio, and subject enrichment. • Question Mix: MCQs, Very Short Answer, Short Answer, Long Answer, source/case-based, and map-based questions, most with internal choices. Sample 1-Mark Question (MCQ): Which discipline within Social Science primarily studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services?
Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): Economics. • Reasoning: Economics studies how resources are used to produce, distribute, and consume goods and services, and how individuals and societies make choices under scarcity. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Democratic Politics): Explain any five features that distinguish a democracy from a non-democratic form of government.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly stating five distinct features (e.g. elected rulers, free and fair elections, one person-one vote, rule of law, freedom to organise) (1 Mark each, 5 Marks total). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Examiners in Social Science:
• Point-wise Marking: Each correctly explained cause, feature, or factor earns marks independently, so answers structured point by point score better than one continuous paragraph.
• Map Work Precision: Locating and labelling places on the outline map is marked strictly on positional accuracy, not on any accompanying description. • Case-Based Questions: Source-based and case-based questions expect the answer to directly engage with the passage or data given, not just restate the general concept from the textbook. |
