Part I

Question 1

Answer briefly each of the following questions: 

(i) Define the word descent.

(ii) Under what category can the terms avoidance, joking-relationship, amitate and teknonymy, be classified.

(iii) What is polygamy?

(iv) What is meant by patripotestal and avancupotestal?

(v) Define superstition.

(vi) What is social change?

(vii) Differentiate between capital goods and consumer goods.

(viii) How can tribes be classified on the basis of race?

(ix) Define the concept of collective responsibility in primitive law.

(x) Distinguish between assimilation and isolation.

PART II 

Answer any five questions.

Question 2

(a) Discuss the nature of marriage. 

(b) Discuss any six major functions of marriage. 

(c) Examine the views of Morgan on Clan.

Question 3

(a) Differentiate between matriarchal and patriarchal societies, giving suitable examples.

(b) Discuss briefly the basic principles of Confucianism. 

Question 4

(a) Examine class as an effect of industrialization. 

(b) Discuss any two legislations that have helped improve the status of women in modern India.

Question 5

(a) Discuss any one social movement in India, explaining how it has helped in bringing about social change.

(b) Write a brief history of a caste movement and discuss its consequences.
