PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
Many people are today are not as happy as they would wish to be. Life has definitely become easy and comfortable due to technological advancements. High disposable incomes have helped us gain better standards of living. But we still lack deep fulfillment. This remains an elusive reality. It is this pursuit of material wealth and the worldly possessions that has robbed us of the contentment. How do you define happiness? How can we obtain it? Happiness is actually a state of mind that is obtained when there is feeling of contentment, satisfaction and pleasure. We had been taught that achievements, education, career, family and financial security are benchmark of happiness. But our elders never told us that
happiness is not always the end result. Happiness has nothing to do with living in a beautiful home, affording a lavish lifestyle or wearing designer clothes. It is a big misconception to think that having a lot of money can make someone happy.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “You are as happy as you make up your mind to be.” One has to actually decide to become happy. It is a choice we have to make. Being satisfied with what we have become or who we are can be enough to be happy. Every little human action which is taken to make life better for ourselves or others should become a reason to be happy. But the best way to everlasting happiness is to first set goals and determine the areas in our lives that are important to us. Then we should strive to attain these goals. We should make a conscious attempt to change what we can and accept what we cannot.
Being Optimistic can aid in increasing our quotient of happiness. It is important to think of life to become better than what it is now. Dwelling in the past and lamenting about something that went wrong invariably robs us of life-force and makes us hopeless.
At the same time, we should never try to compare ourselves with others. It will only lead to unhappiness. Happiness starts at home. Therefore, we should try to improve our relationship with our parents and siblings. Research has shown that happy people live longer.

THE ECHOING GREEN
The Sun does arise, Till the little ones, weary,
And make happy the skies; No more can be merry;
The merry bells ring The Sun does descend,
To welcome the Spring; And our sports have an end.
The birds of the bush, Round the laps of their mothers
Sing louder around Many sisters and brother,
To the bells’ cheerful sound, Like birds in their nest,
While our sports shall be seen. Are ready for rest,
And sport no more seen
On the Echoing Green. On the darkening Green.
Old John, with white hair,
Does laugh away care,
Sitting under the oak,
Among the old folk,
They laugh at our play,
And soon they all say:
‘Such, such were the joys
When we all girls and boys,
In our youth-time were seen
On the Echoing Green.’
