Eligibility for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
The NTSE eligibility criteria consist of the minimum age, educational qualification, nationality, etc. It is essential for the interested applicants to qualify all of these norms in order to be effective enough to appear in the scholarship examination. The candidate needs to be sure about the details mentioned below related to the NTSE eligibility criteria.
In order to sit for the second round of NTSE , candidates must fulfill a different set of eligibility criteria defined by the NCERT. These eligibility norms will be valid for applicants studying in India and the ones studying in abroad.
Eligibility Criteria for NTSE for Candidates Studying in India
- The applicant must be appearing in class 10th for the first time.
- The applicant must have the proof of Indian nationality.
- Only the candidate who has been selected on the basis of the first stage screening examination by the Union Territories and States will be eligible to appear for the second stage of the examination.
Eligibility Criteria for NTSE for Candidates Studying in Abroad
- Students with Indian nationality studying abroad in 10th or equivalent grade will be exempted from the state level round and will be allowed to directly sit in the second level of the examination.
- The applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate at the previous annual examination.
- It is essential for the applicants to be a part of a recognized and reputed foreign institution. The candidates of Indian nationality studying abroad should have documents verifying the recognition of the institution.
How to apply for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
The NCERT will send the examination details and roll numbers directly to the shortlisted applicants through speed post. The applicants are not required to fill in separate application form for NTSE Stage-II National Level Scholarship Examination. However, the students with Indian Nationality studying abroad need to apply through the Head of the Institution where they are presently studying with the attested copy of Class IX. Such candidates are exempted from the first stage of examination and can directly apply for the second level of evaluation. The NCERT will allot the roll numbers to such eligible candidates and if such a candidate is selected, the scholarship shall be paid for pursuing studies in India only.
There are certain eligibility norms laid out by the conducting body of the examination that the applicant needs to check before filling the Application Form of NTSE . After checking the eligibility criteria the students should proceed towards the application procedure.
Medium for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
As far as the medium of stage II National Level Scholarship Examination is concerned, in addition to English and Hindi, the conducting authority NCERT organizes the entrance exam in Asamiya, Bangla, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
Fee for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
The Stage II is the national level scholarship examination conducted by NCERT for Stage I qualifiers and Indian nationals studying abroad as they are exempted from stage I examination. NCERT is the conducting and deciding authority of the second stage of the National Talent Search Examination and the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) does not charge any fees for NTSE Scholarship programme.
Exam Pattern for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
The students obtaining more than the required percentage in the state level examination and standing within a specified number of top ranks (state quota) qualify to appear for the NTSE stage – II National Level Examination which pertains to about top 4000 students from the entire country. The national level examination has two parts for recommending the required number of applicants for the exam to be conducted by the NCERT in the month of May.

The part I of Mental Ability Test (MAT) consists of 100 multiple choice questions on reasoning and critical thinking to be answered in 120 minutes. The questions may be on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figures, etc. Whereas, the part II of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consists of 100 multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History, Geography, Political Science and Economics to be answered in 120 minutes. There are 2000 scholarships for the entire country. Awardees of NTS Examination shall receive scholarship up to Ph.D. level in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, and post graduation level in Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Admit Card for Stage II– National Level Scholarship Examination:
The NTSE Stage II Admit Card will be granted only to those applicants who clear the NTSE Stage I state level scholarship examination. The Stage II Admit Card will be issued by the conducting authority the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The students will have to download the NTSE Admit Card for Stage II from the official website of NCERT.
Result for Stage II – National Level Scholarship Examination:
NTSE Stage II Result will be declared by NCERT in the second week of August , on the official website ncert.nic.in. The result of NTSE Stage II will be released for the exam to be held on May 10, .
