Question. Write a note on input and output devices of a computer system with suitable examples.
Answer.Input devices – Input devices help us to enter data into a computer . Keyboard and Mouse are the two most common input devices .
Output devices- Output devices help us to access the desired output and information .Monitor and Speakers are two most commonly used output devices.

Question. What is CPU ? Mention its units and explain their functions.
Answer. The CPU (Central Processing Unit ) is the process or brain of the computer . It makes calculations and processes data into information. The CPU controls all input and output devices and consists of 3 units-
(a) ALU- Arithmetic Logic Unit performs the tasks of arithmetical calculations and logical operations.
(b) CU- Control unit controls all operations of the computer.
(c) MU- Memory unit is used to receive hold and deliver data as per the instructions from the control unit.

Question. What are the two types of software of a computer system ?
Answer. Software is classified into 2 categories –
(a) SYSTEM SOFTWARE - This type of software performs the basic functions that are important to operate a computer system .The operating system is an example of system software.
(b) APPLICATION SOFTWARE- This consists of sets of programs that are used to do specialized tasks including payroll, inventory, spreadsheets, desktop publishing etc.

Question. Write a short note on data system of a computer.
Answer. In a computer database, the data is stored in form of bits and bytes.
BIT- A bit is the short form of Binary Digit (the digit 0 and 1)
BYTE- 8 bits together form a byte .
FIELD – A field refers to a collection of bytes that include a certain item of information about a thing .eg-name of a bank , its address etc.
RECORD – A record is a collection of related fields. Eg- a record about a student may include fields such as their name, address, aggregate marks , attendance etc.
FILE- File is a collection of records .eg- a collection of all records of students applying for a particular course, etc.
DATABASE- A database refers to the collection of all files in an organization . eg- files of clients, and staff of a bank make the bank’s database.

Question. Write down any three problems that you could face while working on a computer system and write down their solution also.
Answer. Three problems that we can face while working on system ,with their solutions are-
(a) Computer is not turning ON- Check all the power supply plugs . Keep the Monitor switch ON.
(b) Mouse /Keyboard is not working – Check to ensure that mouse/keyboard connections are properly attached .Check if the keyboard has got stuck.
(c) Keyboard is typing in Capital letters only – Check if the shift key has got stuck or the Caps Lock Key is on.

Answer. Hardware comprises of physical units of a computer that can be seen and touched . Computer hardware consists of these units –
Input devices, Output devices, Processing devices ,Storage devices.

Question. What is a scanner ? Give some examples .
Answer. Scanner is used to scan images from photos , posters magazines ,etc directly in to the computer. Eg- Flatbled scanner and Handheld scanner .

Question. What is a drawing tablet?
Answer. Drawing Tablet is an input device which has a board and special pen to write over it and is connected to the computer.

Question. Define Software.
Answer. Software refers to a set of programs that control the computer hardware to make them operate.

Question. What is the full form of ASCII ?
Answer. ASCII Stands for American Standard Code for Information interchange .

Question. Give two examples of plotter.
Answer. Two example of plotter are – Drum plotter and Flatbed plotter.

Question. Name two types of computer memory .
Answer. The two types of computer memory are Primary memory and Secondary memory.

Answer. 8 bits make a byte.

Answer : The Change Your View option in Menu Control bar has many options to view the files and folders and arrange them in different styles as per our choice.

Question. How can you copy data from pendrive to hard disk ? Give suitable tips .
Answer : Copy data from pen drive to hard disk using these tips –
(i) Insert the pen drive .
(ii) Click on open folder to view files option from the Auto play dialog box .
(iii) Select the desired files to be copied . Right click on the file select copy option .
(iv) Select a location on the hard disk to paste files(s). Right click on the screen and select paste option .
(v) Click on Safely Remove hardware option to remove the pen drive.
(vi) Remove the pendrive after the confirmation message appears.

(a) Create shortcuts on Desktop.
Answer : We use these steps to create a shortcut on desktop-
1. Select a file or folder .
2. Right click on the file or folder. Select send to option .
3. Select the desktop to Create a shortcut of this folder on the desktop .

3. Click on Accessories option .
4. Click on the Ease of Access option.

Question. Describe various options to view the files and folders and the options to arrange them in different styles .
Answer : we can right click and select group by option and we can select any of these options to arrange files and folders in alphabetical order of their names.
(a) NAME- This option is used to arrange files and folders in alphabetical order of their names.
(b) DATE MODIFIED- This option is used to arrange icons in ascending order of the date of modification.
(c) TYPE- This option is used to arrange files and folders as per their file type .
(d) SIZE- This option is used to arrange files and folders in order of file size .

Question. Write down the steps generally followed to burn a CD.
Answer : We use these steps to burn a CD –
1. Insert CD in CD - ROM drive .
2. Open a CD – Burning software by double clicking its icon on the desktop .
3. Click on Data Burning option .
4. Click on Browse button and select the desired Files.
5. Click on Burn option to write the related files to the CD .
6. Click on OK at the Data Disc burning dialog box as it appears after Completion of the burning process.
