Early farming and herding

The history of early man began as hunter and gatherers to search their food. Early man lives a nomadic life style by living as a small Groups or tribes that moved from place to place in searching food and water.

Historians believed that farming started about 10,000 years ago with discovery of farming man life greatly changed.

We do not know exactly how farming first began. Archeologists think that seeds were probably dropped on the soil,

Water, some plants began to grow in a noticeable amount in the very some place were first dropped.

Somehow early man was able to make the connection between the dropped seeds and the new growth of the same plants.

The seeds grow in to crops or plants grown to provide food. The first crops to be grown were wheat, barley, And peas. Crops fully grow, then were harvested.

To harvest means to collect or gather crops which are ready to eat. For the first time people could settle down in a chosen area. As a result the first village began to appear early settlements were often located near water ,usually by a river.

Village life

Farming brought many changes to the way people lived. People no longer had to live as nomads. They began to settle in to a more sedentary way of life.

Sedentary means to live or stay in one place. Farming improved the need to store extra crops became a problem. Permanent structures built by man were used to store food

People needed to be close their store cropped. they began to built very simple homes these early storage buildings And homes grew into the first village.

A village is a settlement of people who lived and work together. Farming was very important to the growth of village.

Farming could feed a village and made life much easier villages began first by building small round huts made from dry grass

Later, clay was used to built more rectangular shaped homes.

A stone wall was built around a village to protect against invaders or enemies who wanted to harm, destroy or steal,

Benefits of stone wall had , like keeping flood waters out , it helped keep animal herds in and dangerous animals out.

Early village shared many common qualities they were usually located near a river or another water source. Rivers provided waters to the village. Villages needed the water for drinking and farming. The river also provided water from their animals and for fishing, another source of food.

Growth of trade

Trade is the exchange of items or materials some people believed trade first started when gifts were exchanged between village More village began to appear the desire for trade increased, because villages growing larger in size people began to search for a new areas to settle. This exploration of nearby lands led to the development of trade. People now had more time to work at making tools or creating new crafts. Villages used the materials found nearby to create their own unique tools and crafts, example a village found obsidian rock , they would dig a pit to cut out the rock. The exchange of obsidian was important to start of trade.

Obsidian is a very sharp rock that looks much like glass and was used to make cutting tools.

Parents reward children with money for completing tasks around the house or for achieving excellent grades at school. This is called allowance.

Allowance is pocked money that you can choose to save(spend) with an allowance , children can learn to make decisions with their money.

Spending money wisely is a very important life skill. Children often find spending money easy. Saving money shows responsibility. It is a challenge to save money in order to buy something more valuable. Many children find it difficult to resist urge to spend their money an things they do not really need. Saving means you are looking a head to your future.

Children parents might decide to open a book account for child.

A bank is a place that holds your money and keeps it safe. It helps people save large amounts of money people put their money and are making a deposit. If take money out of your bank account it is called a withdrawal. Bank helps people with their financial needs.

Most banks have special programs to help kids save money. Especially for university students.
