(v) Microprocessor – Fourth generation
Answer the following questions –
Question.(i) How was the second generation of computers faster than first generation computers ?
Answer : The first generation computers were used vacuum tubes and they were very large , expensive and required huge amount of electricity.
The second generation computers used transistors instead of vacuum tubes. As transistors are smaller than vacuum tubes. The second generation computers became much smaller in size .They also became faster and cheaper.
Question.(ii) Why was the third generation of computers better than second generation computers ?
Answer : Integrated circuit was introduce during the development of 3rd generation computers . An Integrated circuit (IC) is as small as a transistors but it can work as fast as thousands of them. Integrated circuits made computers faster, cheaper and smaller than the second generation computers. They used less electricity.
Question.(iii) Explain fourth generation computers .
Answer : The 4th generation computers were developed from 1971 to 1982 . In this generation computers used microprocessor. A microprocessor consist of a small silicon chip on which thousands of circuits are placed . The fourth generation computers are smaller portable and cheaper .They use less electricity and produce less heat.
