⚠️ REET Has 5 Options - Use Option 5 Strategically
REET's OMR has 5 options per question. The 5th option is "None of the Above." Marking the 5th option does NOT attract negative marking - it is treated like leaving the question blank, but protects you from the 1/3 penalty. For uncertain questions, mark Option 5 instead of guessing randomly.
⚠️ Blanks Also Get -1/3 Penalty in REET
Unlike most TET exams where blanks = 0 marks, REET 2025 deducts 1/3 mark for unattempted questions too. You must attempt at least 90% of questions (135 out of 150) or face disqualification. The 5th option "None of Above" is the safe way to satisfy this rule.
🎯 REET Mains is the Actual Job - REET is Only Eligibility
Qualifying REET gives only an eligibility certificate. Actual Rajasthan Grade 3 teacher appointments happen via REET Mains conducted by RSSB/RSMSSB. REET Mains 2025 has 7,759 vacancies. REET Mains uses 2 marks per correct with 1/3 negative.
🎯 Practice Mock Tests - Subject-wise
REET tests Child Development and Pedagogy, Languages, Mathematics/EVS (Level 1) and subject-specific content (Level 2). REET Mains also includes Rajasthan-specific GK.

⚡ The 5-Option Rule - REET's Unique Feature
No other TET in India has this 5-option system. Understanding it is critical for exam strategy - wrong answers AND blank answers both attract -1/3 penalty.
📋 How the 5-Option OMR Works
Each REET question has 5 options:
A, B, C, D = Four answer options
E = "None of the Above" (special 5th option)
Marking Option A/B/C/D correctly: +1 mark
Marking Option A/B/C/D incorrectly: -1/3 mark
Leaving blank (no marking): -1/3 mark
Marking Option E "None of the Above": 0 marks (safe - no penalty)
🎯 Optimal Strategy for the 5-Option System
✅ Questions you are CONFIDENT about:
Mark A/B/C/D directly. Full +1 mark.
🔶 Questions where you can ELIMINATE 1-2 options:
Mark your best guess from remaining options. Expected value positive since probability of correct is high.
⚠️ Questions where you have NO IDEA:
Mark Option E "None of the Above" → 0 marks, no penalty. Better than leaving blank (-1/3) or random guessing (-1/3 expected loss).
⚠️ Disqualification Rule - Must Attempt 90%+
REET 2025 introduced a rule: candidates who do not attempt at least 90% of questions (i.e., leave more than 15 questions completely blank without marking even Option E) face disqualification.
Safe approach:
Mark Option E for all questions you don't want to attempt. This counts as "attempted" (satisfies the 90% rule) while giving 0 marks instead of -1/3. Never leave any question completely blank in REET.
📊 REET Level 1 Exam Pattern - Primary Level (Classes 1-5)

📈 Qualifying Marks and Pass Rates
REET is a pass/fail eligibility test, not merit-based. The qualifying threshold is fixed. REET 2025 was held 27 February 2025 and result declared 27 May 2026.
CategoryQualifying Marks (out of 150)PercentageRemark
General / UR / EWS9060%Standard qualifying mark
OBC / MBC82-8355%As per Rajasthan reservation norms
SC / ST82-8355%5% relaxation from General qualifying mark
PwBD / Divyangjan82-8355%As per disability reservation rules
ℹ️ REET 2025 had 1/3 negative marking unlike previous REET cycles where there was no negative marking. This significantly changed the effective qualifying strategy. With 1/3 negative marking, a candidate who answers 95 correctly and 10 incorrectly scores 95 - (10×0.33) = 91.7 marks - just qualifying for General category. REET Mains cut-offs depend on merit and vary by subject category and availability of vacancies. Monitor RSSB website for subject-wise REET Mains result analysis.
💡 Expert Preparation Tips
From our faculty who have guided thousands of REET candidates to successful qualification across multiple Rajasthan TET cycles
1
The 5th option strategy is REET's unique skill - master it before exam day - REET's 5-option OMR with negative marking for blanks is the most distinctive feature that separates REET preparation from CTET, UPTET, Bihar TET or any other state TET. The correct approach: (1) Confident questions - mark A/B/C/D directly. (2) Uncertain but can eliminate 2 options - mark best remaining guess (expected value positive with 50% chance from 2 options vs -33% for blank). (3) Completely uncertain - mark Option E "None of the Above" for 0 marks and no penalty. (4) Never leave any question completely blank - mark E at minimum. Practice this three-tier strategy in full-length mock tests before exam day so it becomes automatic under time pressure. This strategy alone can increase scores by 5-10 marks compared to candidates who either guess randomly or leave blanks.
2
Rajasthan GK is tested heavily in both REET EVS/Social Studies AND REET Mains - prepare it as a priority - Standard CTET or UPTET preparation books contain almost no Rajasthan-specific content. But REET consistently includes Rajasthan geography (rivers, lakes, districts, Aravalli Range, Thar Desert), Rajasthan history (Rajput kingdoms, key battles, famous rulers), Rajasthan culture (folk dances, festivals, crafts, food), and Rajasthan polity (RPSC, High Court, Panchayati Raj structure, current CM, Governor). This content appears in REET Level 1 EVS section, REET Level 2 Social Studies section, and even more heavily in REET Mains' General Knowledge section. Prepare a dedicated Rajasthan GK note and revise it periodically. This preparation is uniquely valuable for REET - it gives you questions your national-level competitors would miss.
3
Child Development and Pedagogy is 20% of REET and the highest ROI section - 30 of 150 questions in both Level 1 and Level 2 come from Child Development and Pedagogy. This is the most preparation-sensitive section - consistent topics (Piaget, Vygotsky, Bloom, NCF 2005, NEP 2020, RTE Act, inclusive education) can be mastered in 3-4 weeks of focused study. Candidates who score 26-28 out of 30 in Pedagogy versus 18-20 have an 8-10 mark advantage that can be the difference between qualifying and not qualifying (especially with REET's -1/3 negative marking). REET pedagogy also specifically includes Rajasthan education policy and state government education schemes - prepare these separately from national pedagogy topics.
4
CTET and REET preparation overlaps 75-80% - prepare for both simultaneously if targeting both central and state jobs - REET Level 1 and Level 2 cover the same core sections as CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 (Child Development, Hindi, Language II, Maths, EVS/Subject). The main REET-specific additions are Rajasthan GK content in EVS and Social Studies, Punjabi as an additional Language II option (not in CTET), and the unique 5-option OMR format. Candidates preparing for REET should also appear for CTET which gives eligibility for KVS and NVS teaching jobs in addition to Rajasthan state jobs. The incremental preparation needed for CTET from a REET base is minimal - mainly removing Rajasthan-specific content and adding central government education content.
5
Prepare REET Mains subject content from Class 1-8 NCERT AND Rajasthan Board textbooks - REET Mains (the actual recruitment exam) tests subject knowledge for the class level being taught. For Level 1 Maths and EVS, the content is from Classes 1-5. However, REET Mains also tests Rajasthan-specific curriculum content from the Rajasthan Board textbooks - which include local examples, Rajasthan-specific case studies, and state curriculum variations. Standard NCERT-only preparation may miss 5-10% of REET Mains questions that come from Rajasthan Board-specific content. Access Rajasthan Board textbooks at rbe.rajasthan.gov.in for subjects at the relevant class levels and supplement your NCERT preparation with Rajasthan Board content.
6
The negative marking rule changed in REET 2025 - do not use old REET preparation strategy - Previous REET cycles (before 2025) had no negative marking. Many REET preparation books, online resources and coaching materials were written based on the old no-negative-marking format. The 2025 REET introduced 1/3 negative marking for wrong AND blank answers, and the unique 5-option system. If you are using preparation material from before 2025, specifically update your strategy for the new format. The subject knowledge remains the same - NCERT textbooks are still the foundation. But strategy for uncertain questions completely changes: the old advice was "attempt all 150 always" - the new advice is "use Option E for completely uncertain questions to avoid the -1/3 penalty." Always verify the negative marking rule in the specific REET 2026 notification before exam day, as rules can change between cycles.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions - REET 2026
Most searched questions about REET eligibility, the 5-option rule, qualifying marks and the path to Rajasthan government teacher jobs
The 5th option "None of the Above" is REET's unique OMR feature introduced in the 2025 cycle. Each REET question has 5 answer options: A, B, C, D (the four answer choices) and E "None of the Above." The penalty rules are: marking A/B/C/D correctly gives +1 mark; marking A/B/C/D incorrectly deducts 1/3 mark; leaving a question completely blank also deducts 1/3 mark; marking Option E "None of the Above" gives 0 marks with no penalty. This means Option E is the strategically correct choice for questions where you have absolutely no idea about the answer - it protects you from the -1/3 penalty of guessing wrong, and also satisfies REET's requirement to attempt at least 90% of questions (since marking E counts as an attempt). Do not confuse Option E with a blank answer - a blank is penalised, but marking Option E is not penalised.
No - qualifying REET gives you only a Teacher Eligibility Certificate, not a teaching job. REET is an eligibility test that certifies you are qualified to apply for Grade 3 (primary and upper primary) teaching positions in Rajasthan government schools. The actual teacher recruitment happens through a separate exam called REET Mains, conducted by RSSB (Rajasthan Staff Selection Board). REET Mains 2025 was conducted January 17-21, 2026, with 7,759 vacancies. REET Mains has 150 questions worth 300 marks (2 marks each) with standard 4-option negative marking. It tests subject knowledge, Rajasthan GK, educational scenario, information technology and teaching methodology. You must have a valid REET certificate to apply for REET Mains. Selected candidates in REET Mains become permanent Grade 3 teachers at Pay Level 10 (Rs.56,100+).
The REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers) certificate is valid specifically for Rajasthan state government teaching positions - primarily Grade 3 (primary and upper primary) teacher posts under RSSB/REET Mains. It is a state-level TET and is NOT accepted as an equivalent to CTET for central government positions like KVS, NVS or DSSSB teaching jobs. For central government teaching jobs, you need CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test). REET certificates have lifetime validity for Rajasthan government teaching recruitment. If you want to keep options open for both Rajasthan state and central government teaching, you should ideally qualify both REET and CTET - the preparation overlaps about 75-80% so the incremental effort is manageable.
REET Level 1 is for candidates who want to teach Classes 1-5 (Primary level). It has 5 sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Hindi, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies - all with 30 questions each. REET Level 2 is for candidates who want to teach Classes 6-8 (Upper Primary level). It has Child Development, Hindi, Language II (30Q each) and a 60-question subject section (either Maths-Science or Social Studies). Yes - candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for both levels can apply for both in the same REET cycle by paying Rs.750 (combined fee vs Rs.550 for one). Qualifying both gives you certificates for teaching both class ranges, maximising your options for REET Mains applications. However, eligibility for Level 2 typically requires a B.Ed degree while Level 1 can be cleared with D.El.Ed, so confirm your qualification meets both before applying for both.
REET is not conducted on a fixed annual schedule - it depends on Rajasthan's teaching vacancy requirements. Major recent cycles include REET 2021 (December 2021, 26 lakh+ candidates, largest TET) and REET 2025 (February 27, 2025). Significant gaps between cycles are normal. Regarding negative marking: previous REET cycles before 2025 had NO negative marking at all - candidates were encouraged to attempt all 150 questions. The 2025 REET was the first cycle to introduce 1/3 negative marking AND the 5-option OMR system. REET certificates have lifetime validity so previous qualifiers do not need to re-appear. There is no attempt limit for REET. Given the potentially long gaps between cycles, treat each available cycle seriously. Monitor rajeduboard.rajasthan.gov.in for new REET notifications.

REET 2026 - Complete Guide: 5-Option OMR Rule, Level 1 and Level 2 Pattern, Rajasthan GK, REET Mains and Free Mock Tests

The REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers) is conducted by BSER (Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan) for eligibility certification for primary and upper primary teaching in Rajasthan government schools. REET has two levels: Level 1 (Classes 1-5, 5 sections of 30Q each: Child Development, Hindi, Language II, Maths, EVS) and Level 2 (Classes 6-8, with a 60-question subject section for Maths-Science or Social Studies). Each level has 150 questions, 150 marks, 2.5 hours, offline OMR mode. REET 2025 was held 27-28 February 2025 with result declared 27 May 2026. A landmark change in REET 2025: 5-option OMR introduced with 1/3 negative marking for wrong AND blank answers. The 5th option "None of the Above" carries 0 marks and no penalty - the safe choice for uncertain questions. Candidates must attempt at least 90% of questions or face disqualification. Qualifying marks: 60% (90/150) for General, 55% for OBC/SC/ST/PwBD. REET certificates are lifetime valid.

REET is an eligibility test only - the actual Grade 3 teacher recruitment happens through REET Mains conducted by RSSB (Rajasthan Staff Selection Board). REET Mains 2025 had 7,759 vacancies with exam held January 17-21, 2026. REET Mains uses 150 questions at 2 marks each (300 total), 2.5 hours, 4 options (standard), and covers Rajasthan GK, subject knowledge, educational scenario and information technology. Selected candidates become Grade 3 teachers at Pay Level 10 (Rs.56,100 to Rs.1,77,500). REET's distinctive features vs other state TETs: 5-option OMR (unique), 1/3 negative for blanks (unique), Punjabi as Language II option (not in CTET), and heavy Rajasthan-specific content in EVS (Level 1), Social Studies (Level 2) and REET Mains.
