• Highest-Weightage Group: Physical World & Measurement, Kinematics, and Laws of Motion together carry 23 of the 70 theory marks. • Unit-wise Theory Split: Units I-III — Physical World & Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion (23); Units IV-VI — Work Energy & Power, System of Particles & Rotational Motion, Gravitation (17); Units VII-IX — Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory of Gases (20); Unit X — Oscillations and Waves (10). • Practical Component (30 marks): Experiments such as Vernier Callipers & Screw Gauge, Simple Pendulum, Young's Modulus, Surface Tension by Capillary Rise, and Speed of Sound (Resonance Tube), plus record and viva. • Question Mix: MCQs, numerical problems, derivations, and Short/Long Answer questions, most with internal choices. Step-wise Marking Scheme:
• Correct Answer (1 Mark): Its speed (magnitude of velocity), while its velocity direction and acceleration direction keep changing. • Reasoning: In uniform circular motion, the magnitude of velocity (speed) stays constant, but the direction of velocity changes continuously, producing a centripetal acceleration directed toward the centre. Sample 5-Mark Question (Long Answer - Thermodynamics): State the first law of thermodynamics. A gas absorbs 500 J of heat and does 200 J of work on its surroundings. Calculate the change in internal energy of the gas, and explain what this value indicates.
Marking Allocation:
1. Correctly stating the first law — ΔU = Q − W (2 Marks). 2. Correct substitution and calculation — ΔU = 500 J − 200 J = 300 J (2 Marks). 3. Correct interpretation — the positive value shows the internal energy of the gas increased (1 Mark). 📌 Evaluation Criteria followed by Board Examiners in Physics:
• Step Marking on Numericals: Each correct step (formula, substitution, unit) earns marks independently, even if the final numerical answer is wrong.
• Derivations Need Every Step: Long-answer derivations are marked line by line — skipping an intermediate step, even with a correct final formula, costs marks. • Units and Significant Figures: A numerical answer without the correct SI unit, or without appropriate significant figures, loses marks even if the calculation itself is right. |
