In response to alarming air pollution levels, schools in Delhi-NCR will adopt a hybrid mode of education for students up to Grade V under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The Commission for Air Quality Management has enforced this decision, which will protect young children from hazardous air quality and ensure that education continues uninterrupted.
The hybrid model allows parents and students to choose between online and in-person/ offline classes, depending on their preferences and the availability of online resources with parents and schools. This directive applies to schools in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar. The move aims to reduce young children's exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
The shift to GRAP Stage 3 was initiated after the Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a very bad level of 367 on Monday afternoon, placing it in the "very poor" category. The current weather, characterized by calm winds and a low mixing height, has increased pollution levels across the region, prompting urgent intervention.
This measure reflects the Centre's commitment to addressing the health risks posed by the deteriorating air quality in the National Capital Region while balancing the need for uninterrupted learning opportunities for students.
